Specialty Lenses — the Solution for People Who Struggle with Contact Lenses
Our team always goes the extra mile to help patients find vision solutions that work for them, which is why we offer specialty contact lenses to correct for a wide range of issues. Even if you’ve struggled with contacts in the past or have eyes that are characterized as hard-to-fit, we’re confident we can find a set of specialty lenses to enhance your sight.
Your Scleral Lens Experts
If you have “hard-to-fit” eyes and need specialty lenses, one of our most common options are scleral lenses. These lenses can work for a wide variety of patients, and our expert team is able to measure and fit your eyes for a comfortable fit and improved vision.
Our Specialty & Scleral Lens Options
If you’re looking for clear eyesight without needing to rely on eyeglasses, Lowcountry Eye Care offers a wide range of specialty lenses for advanced vision correction. These lenses can also help manage certain eye conditions to help keep your eyes healthy and vision sharp.
Contact Lens Exams and Fittings
Contact lenses require a different prescription and a separate contact lens exam, because unlike glasses, they sit directly on your eyes as opposed to in front of them. Because of this, it’s important to make sure your contact lenses fit perfectly to maximize your comfort and vision clarity. We’ll learn all about you and your vision during your exam, and then recommend contact lenses or specialty lenses to give you the quality vision you deserve.

Our Scleral Lenses
An excellent option for patients who have sensitive or irregular corneas, these contact lenses arc over the cornea completely and instead rest on the sclera, or the “white” of the eye. Scleral lenses are designed to retain moisture and protect the eye from wind and dust particles, which can also help patients find relief from dry eye symptoms. These lenses round out the surface of the cornea by creating a fluid reservoir under the lens, providing greater visual acuity and making them a great choice for anyone with ocular surface diseases, keratoconus, and other corneal complications.
Our Multifocal Soft Lenses
Unlike regular soft contact lenses, multifocals offer multiple focal powers in a single lens. This lets you see objects at a distance by focusing your eyes at the top of the lens, and at nearby objects by looking at the bottom of the lens, so you won’t need to swap between different prescriptions.
Our RGP Lenses
Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses allow your eye to “breathe” better by letting more oxygen through to the front of your eye. Because of this, some patients find these lenses to be more comfortable that regular soft lenses. These lenses are individually customized and sit closer to the eye’s surface, and can offer better visual acuity, focusing power, and overall sharper eyesight.
Our Astigmatism Lenses
Patients with astigmatism, a condition that causes the corneas to be shaped more like a football instead of a spherical shape, often need specialized solutions and lenses to see clearly. We’re proud to offer toric lenses and other options to help provide enhanced, clear vision to patients with astigmatism.
Our Lenses for Myopia
Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, causes objects at a distance to appear blurry, and is often best addressed in childhood. Our expert team can manage and potentially halt its progression with solutions such as MiSight® One Day specialty contact lenses. These lenses are designed to improve your child’s vision and correct the underlying cause of myopia by gently reshaping their corneas.
